The implementation of the “Action Plan to expand the use of natural gas as a motor fuel for 2019-2022” approved by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 29 November 2018 No. 797, which has a significant economic and socio-environmental impact on the economy and population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, continues.
Current status of the implementation of the Plan
General information:
In total, 18 CNG filling stations are operating in Kazakhstan in 2022, 7 of them belong to the KazTransGas JSC group of companies, 1 CNG filling station in Almaty belongs to the municipal bus fleet and 10 CNG filling stations belong to private companies.
In 2022, it is planned to build 8 more CNG filling stations – 2 stations in Shymkent, 1 station in Taraz, 1 station in Turkestan, 1 station in Zhanaozen, 1 station in Aktau, 1 station in Uralsk, 1 station in Aktobe. The projected volume of CNG sales is up to 75 million m3 per year.
The total number of vehicles running on CNG in the Republic of Kazakhstan is about 1925 units.

Almaty – 6 CNG filling stations operate in Almaty, the total number of buses using CNG as a motor fuel is about 500 units.
Shymkent – Akimat purchased 590 units of gas-operated buses in 2020. The total number of CNG buses is 790 units.
In 2021, a private investor built a gas filling station on the territory of the Ordabasy industrial zone. At the moment, there are two private CNG filling stations in the city, which provide refuelling of 500 units of gas-operated buses.

Regions:
Aktobe – In 2017, CNG stations were built and operated by KTGO. Akimat purchased 78 units of gas-operated buses. Negotiations are underway with the Akimat to increase the number of buses.
Atyrau – 170 gas-operated buses are in operation in the city. A private investor built and operates a CNG filling station on the territory of the bus depot.
Aktau – The construction of CNG stations is planned by a private investor. The land is being allocated.
Zhanaozen – The construction of CNG stations is planned by a private investor. The land is being allocated.
Taldykorgan – The city has 50 CNG buses in opreation, it is planned to increase this number to 150 buses by the end of 2022. A CNG filling station was built by a private investor in 2021.
Uralsk – A CNG station operates in Uralsk (built in 1985). A private investor modernized the existing CNG station in February 2022.
Kostanay – A CNG station was built by a private investor in 2018. Commissioning is expected in 2022.
Rudny – 1 CNG filling station (built in 1985) is in operation.
Kyzylorda – 3 CNG stations operate in the city. There are 135 CNG buses in operation.
Taraz – There is 1 CNG station operating in the city (1985). A private investor has begun construction and installation work on CNG filling stations, it is planned to complete construction and installation and commissioning in 2022.
Turkestan – The Akimat plans to purchase 150 CNG buses in 2022. The construction of the CNG station is planned by a private investor, it is planned to complete the work in 2022.
Nur-Sultan – Negotiations are underway with the municipal Akimat on the allocation of land for the construction of CNG filling stations and the purchase of CNG buses.

For the period from 2011 to 2021, CNG filling stations in the Republic of Kazakhstan sold 344.5 million m3 of CNG. 286 thousand tons of diesel fuel were replaced.
